When it comes to champions, Dustin Martin is right at the list. The man, who has achieved greatness at a tender age by receiving one of the highest honours, the Brownlow Medal, making him the sixth Tiger to grab a hold of Charlie.
This young lad has transformed the face of sports with his ferocious sporting realities, is a total knockout for all his opponents. Some descriptions of Martin include ‘agile’, too strong for midfielders’ and ‘superior’. With such title, it makes you wonder who this fellow really is.
We have found … fun facts you may not know of Dustin Martin.
First, we’ll get the obvious out the way. Dustin was born in Castlemaine and is the son to Kathy and Shane Martin. Sweet?
Martin’s career really began at the age of six, when he first took a pass at football
After leaving school at Year 9, Dustin, lived with his dad, after his parents separated, and worked at his dad’s transport business
As an under-10, Dustin played football with Campbells Creek
His senior football player for Castlemaine was at the age of 16 and he later season while playing versus Golden Square, he scored five goals at half-time
Wondering where he got it all from? His dad played football with the Kangaroo Fla and Harcourt in the Bendigo league.
As an under-18, Dusty, as he’s also known, starred for Victoria Country in the 2009 national championships where he has a whooping 28 disposals, 5 clearances, 193 Super Coach points and hands down named centerman for the All Australian team.
Staying with all things 2009, Martins was rated second best kick at the AFL draft camp, and this with both feet. And to top it all off, he was second with just under 3 seconds over a 20 meter sprint. Incredible, right?
One of the biggest highlights, yes we mentioned it, but why not emphasise this greatness. In 2016, he received Brownlow Medal votes polled in an season equaled 25.
Fast forward to 2016. With the most disposals in a league, Dusty has 43. All in Round 17 at the 2016 MCG against Essendon, and to add on to this, he has the most contested possessions in a league amounting to 22, in the same match.
Most clearances? 15 in a league match in Round 3 at the 2017 MCG. Can you believe all this?
